Do you want your dogs and cats to live happy, healthy, full lives? Do you wish you knew how to make that happen for them? We all love our pets and want what’s best for them throughout their lives. But we aren’t always equipped with the right tools, information, education or resources to truly fulfill on that goal. Take, for example, visits to your veterinary hospital. Why is it that for many of us and our pets, veterinary visits evoke feelings of fear, anxiety and stress? What if a veterinary visit could be something you and your pet look forward to?

This is where the Fear Free mission comes in, to alleviate fear, anxiety and stress in pets and educate and inspire the people that care for them. Fear Free focuses on both the physical and emotional well-being of your pets, and aims to take the pet out of petrified.

We are committed to providing you with invaluable resources and education in order for you to provide your pet with a Fear Free home – a home full of Fear Free experiences and plenty of enrichment to help your pets live happy, healthy, full lives.

So what does this mean for you and your pet? We are using the Fear Free approach and handling to make your pets visit at Companion Animal Hospital as relaxed, comfortable, and low stress as possible by:

Using canine and feline pheromone diffusers
Calming music in exam and treatment areas
Calm, slower movements and lowered voices
Treats, treats, treats - lots of treats!
Warm towels and blankets
Calming medications if needed to reduce anxiety
An exam room dedicated to cats
Calming colors - in decor and our scrubs and lab coats (white is actually a scary color to cats)
Cleaners / disinfectants that have less odor and are less irritating to animals sense of smell
